Restaurante El Ronquillo, Ramales de la Victoria

We wanted to take some friends to visit The Solana, but the friends couldn't make it and Solana was full-up, so we asked our local contact Erik, and he wisely sent us the Ronquillo.

Not as sophisticated as Solana, it is a mixture of traditional cooking tweaked-up, plus some innovative dishes, some working out better than others.
Complimentary stuff, a take on the traditional Cocido MontaƱes. Very very nice.

Steamed Percebes (Goose Barnacles), from the coast. Full of flavour, generous portion.

Stew of local local beans, with game bird (the cook & his dad do the hunting). Delicious- That's a half portion, BTW.

You can see the wood pigeon in J's half portion

The best chipirones su tinta I have ever had: las mejores txipis que he comido.
Full name: Chipirones by my mother, with rice in a squid broth, and shavings of local Karranza cheese.

Out of this world.

Red tuna in Miso with veges: the only dish that wasn't up to it. The tuna quality was excellent, the portion too generous, but the miso wasn't quite there, needed some stronger flavour.

Different home-made breads, and they keep replenishing them.

I drank most of my pineapple based dessert, before taking the photo, it was so delicious! It was beautifully presented too, but all that was already in my tummy

Amazing Apple cake, with home-made strawberry sorbet, takes 15 minutes to make, worth the wait!

But full marks for trying and still managing to serve large quantities of home style food as well.

Must-have:
Any of the bean dishes with game.
Chipirones guisados por mi madre etc etc.
Apple cake.

This place is run by a family and it is curious that they have game which the father and son shoot themselves but which the sister, who does the waiting, says she won't recommend because she has strong views on hunting!
I have too, but I did share local beans with wood pigeon- a truly delicious combination.

Price:
50/pp including wine (15 euros a bottle) and desserts. They invited us to the coffees.
Very pleasant place, and some interesting dishes on the menu that we will be back to try-
